FAQ
Questions, answered.
What does the name Ekkayi mean?
Ekkayi is formed from Ekk, meaning one, and Kayi, meaning form: one form that gives endless expressions.
Who founded Ekkayi Atelier?
Ekkayi was founded by Ar. Yashvi Patel, an architect and designer; Vivek Patel, an engineer and entrepreneur; and Ar. Bhavik Mehta, an architect, designer and university gold medallist. Yashvi and Bhavik are both registered with the Council of Architecture.
What makes an Ekkayi piece different?
Most products are either highly functional or visually artistic; very few bring both together. Ekkayi adds the layer we felt was missing: emotion. Every creation begins with a story and is developed around how people actually use it, so it is meant to be touched, used and lived with, not admired from a distance.
How is each piece designed?
Every object begins with a question, not a sketch: why should it exist, what story does it tell, and how will it add value to someone's life? Then comes function, studied through ergonomics, patterns of use, materials and mechanisms. Only then do we shape the emotion, through materials, textures and finishes, raw or polished.
Are Ekkayi pieces mass-produced?
No. Every Ekkayi creation is made by hand, in very limited numbers. Each one goes through research and multiple prototypes, with engineers, artisans and finishers working to one vision before it is made.
How do I order a piece?
It depends on the piece. Our larger works are limited editions: each design is made in a small, fixed run, and every piece carries its number in the series, such as 1/14, 2/14 and so on. To order one, contact the studio. An edition stays available until its last numbered piece is sold. Objects of Character are made by hand in open numbers, can be ordered online and are shipped anywhere in the world.
Limited editions
True luxury isn’t about owning what’s expensive. It’s about owning what few others ever will.
