Ekkayi Atelier

The Atelier

Objects should do more than occupy a space.

Ekkayi Atelier is a luxury design studio making sculptural furniture, lighting and objects by hand. We were founded by architects, on a simple belief: that the things we live among should inspire emotion and enrich everyday living, not merely fill a room.

Every piece is driven by curiosity, material exploration and a deep appreciation for beauty, detail and purpose. We believe true luxury is not about excess — it is about thoughtful design, the care of the hands that made it, and the feeling an object gives you years after it arrives.

Designed to elevate lifestyles. Crafted to create memories.

Signature Pieces

Where the sketch becomes the piece.

CocovrikshaAs drawn

The coconut tree — a symbol of life, growth and resilience — drawn as a standing light. Indian philosophy worked into modern geometry, so it reads as sculpture and lights a room.

  • Cocovriksha — Standing Lamp. The coconut tree — a symbol of life, growth and resilience — drawn as a standing light. Indian philosophy worked into modern geometry, so it reads as sculpture and lights a room.
  • Dune & Mirage — Dressing Table. Desert landscapes drawn as a dressing table. Soft, fluid curves meet reflective surfaces, so an everyday ritual becomes a calm and elevated one.
  • Udgam — Storage Unit. Molten forms and organic movement, drawn into a storage piece — bold enough to be the first thing you see in a room, and built to hold everything it is given.

How we work

Every object begins with a question, not a sketch.

True design happens when idea, function and emotion exist in perfect harmony.

  1. 01

    Idea

Why should this object exist? What story does it tell? How will it add value to someone's life?

Ideation matters most, because every piece carries a narrative. Inspiration comes from nature, architecture, culture, a memory or a simple everyday observation. Once the idea is clear, sequential sketching explores form and proportion until the right direction emerges.

  2. 02

    Function

An object should not only be beautiful. It should feel intuitive, durable and effortless to use.

As the design becomes three-dimensional, we study ergonomics, behavioural science, patterns of use, materials, mechanisms and construction. Then come the prototypes: joinery tested, mechanisms refined, until the piece performs as well as it looks.

  3. 03

    Emotion

Emotions are often experienced through materials.

Only then do we shape the feeling. Materials, textures, finishes, colours and details are chosen with intent: a raw finish for warmth and authenticity, a polished surface for elegance and refinement.

The Hidden Pour, Ekkayi's bar cabinet, its layered form drawn from the palm trunk

In practice · The Hidden Pour

Its form is inspired by the palm trunk. But the experience begins the moment you touch it.

Pull the doors open and it recreates the feeling of opening a treasured trunk, revealing an interior organised for a luxurious bar experience. Form follows the narrative; function follows how people use it. Neither is allowed to overpower the other.
